"The best and most beautiful things in the world cannot be seen or even touched. They must be felt with the heart." - Helen Keller

Public Relations & Education

The Samara's Foundation participates in many public activities. We work closley with the local Lions Clubs on several of thier events. Members donate thier time to work at the carnival ticket booths during Apple Blossom and at the Chelan County Fair.  We have helped the local Lions Clubs collect funds on White Cane Day, which is an important day to all of us.
KOHO Radio invited us to talk  about the Samara's Foundation and the first Dinner in the Dark.
We have been on channel 19 local access TV with Chris Hansen to promote different fundraising events.

The foundation was a participant in the Senior Center Wellness Clinic. We brought several of our visual aids to demonstrate thier use to local residents.

Our members with guide dogs go to local schools to teach the children about the dogs and discuss with them what it is like being blind.
The Samara's Foundation has designed an educational coloring book to educate the children about Braille, audio crosswalks, and white canes. Our coloring book is free to down load in  PDF format at www.colorbook.html

Taking our ideas, information, and knowledge out into the community, is an important part of our foundation. We make presentations to many groups in our area. Rotary Clubs, Lions Clubs, and Soroptimist's Groups.
Many make contributions to the foundation and purchase tickets for the quilt raffle, or they buy candles. It is a fun thing to do and it keeps our neighbor clubs and friends informed.
We have a calendar of presentations to make.  If your group or club would like to have us come and talk to them contact us at 509-886-1055 for scheduling.
In April of 2008 for the first time we were in the Wenatchee Apple Blossom Parade with our friends from Vision Impossible .
We had a months notice and we really hustled to put together a presentation for the public. Since this was our first time and we wanted to let people know what we were all about.
Our float consisted of all the things the Samara's Foundation has done to raise funds to purchase equipment from our plant and candle sales to our "Dinner in the Dark" the quilt raffle and the audio crosswalks.

Sami's Ready Readers

Another fun part of the Samara's Foundation is the Sami's Ready Readers. This group of volunteers donated thier time to reading to the blind or visually impaired. We read to groups or one on one. If you would like more information about the Ready Readers
email us at samaras@samaras.org or call us at 509-886-1055.
